BEETHOVEN: A SURPRISE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION

Saturday, April 18, 2020 | 8PM | Ferguson Center for the Arts, Newport News
Sunday, April 19, 2020 | 2:30PM | Sandler Center for the Performing Arts, Virginia Beach

Steven Jarvi, conductor
Annelle Gregory, violin

Beethoven: Egmont Overture
Beethoven: Symphony No. 5
Beethoven: Violin Concerto

Celebrate the world's favorite composer and his greatest music! From its famous four-note opening signature, this hymn to triumph over adversity has inspired and celebrated hard-won victories for more than two hundred years.

We're adding two special performances to our season in recognition of the genius who has given the world so much of its greatest music, and in honor of all those who strive and overcome long odds. Please join us for an uplifting evening for everyone in the midst of challenges and those who have conquered them. And isn't that all of us?

The Fifth is world's most famous symphony - performed by our world-class Virginia Symphony musicians. The program will also feature Beethoven's Violin Concerto, at times contemplative and often showing those "quiet flashes of genius" for which it’s beloved. Played for the VSO by Annelle Gregory, the Violin Concerto is the perfect pairing for an evening that will demonstrate all the power, emotion and human connection that Beethoven's music can be in the hands of a great symphony orchestra.
